The
Central Ohio Symphony, under the direction of Maestro Jaime
Morales-Matos, will take the outdoor stage for its 24th annual 4th of
July concert on Saturday, July 4 at 8:00 p.m. This year's concert will
again be held on the Phillips Glen lawn located behind Gray Chapel on
the Sandusky Street main campus of Ohio Wesleyan University. This is
just one block south of downtown Delaware. Lawn seating is free; the
Symphony also provides limited general admission chair seating in front
of the stage for $3.00. Kiwanis will be selling refreshments at the
concert.
This is one of the largest outdoor concerts in Central Ohio with an attendance estimated at more than 5000.
The 2009 concert will include patriotic music by American composers as well as music from film. Among the selections will be music commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the first manned landing on the Moon. The orchestra will play the popular Armed Forces Salute, in recognition of veterans and active service personnel. The musicians will end with The 1812 Overture, a perennial crowd pleaser, and Stars and Stripes Forever. Last year's sound effects cannon are back for the 1812 Overture.
Immediately following the concert will be the city of Delaware's spectacular fireworks display. The largest show in the city's history can be viewed from areas adjacent to the concert site.
Sponsors are the Ohio Arts Council, the City of Delaware, Ohio Wesleyan University as the host, and the Delaware County Bank and Trust.
Tickets are at Buehlers, Beehive Books and the Arts Castle and through the Symphony.
